Margo Bushmiaer, MNSc, BSN, RN
For the past 45 years I have worked in pediatric nursing as a Staff Nurse in ICU and Out Patient clinics, Nurse Practitioner, Researcher, Instructor, Rehabilitation and Therapy Administrator. I recently retired after 22 years as the Director of Health Services at Little Rock School District where I supervised 54 RNs working in the 48 schools of the capital city. My career focus has been to promote health, prevent illness and keep children and teens out of the hospital. I was director of the Weight Control Clinic for Children and Teens at Arkansas Children's Hospital in the early 80s before the obesity crisis had been recognized as a national health concern. I was on faculty at University of Arkansas for Medical Science, University of North Carolina and Baylor University. My professional contributions include publishing several research and practice articles in peer reviewed Nursing journals and presenting at national, state and community Health Conferences.
I served as President of Arkansas NAPNAP and Sigma Theta Tau at UAMS College of Nursing and Baylor School of Nursing and Secretary and Treasurer of the Arkansas Nurses Association. I learned the most about Board work by serving on the Board of Directors for the National Association of School Nurses(NASN) for 7 years and the NASN Executive Committee.
I currently work to promote health through teaching Jazzercise to citizens, geriatric to teens, in my home community. I serve on two state vaccine advisory Boards and the quality of Care Advisory Committee for the Arkansas State and Public School Employee Benefits Division.
