Karen Carroll, RN SANE-A SANE-P NY-SAFE
Karen D. Carroll has been a licensed Registered Nurse for over 48 years. She is currently the Forensic Nursing Specialist at the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
Ms. Carroll received her training to become a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner through Columbia University’s School of Nursing in 1997. She is nationally Board Certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner of both Adult and Pediatric patients and NYS Department of Health certified as a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner. She has completed over 3000 forensic examinations of adults and 1500 forensic examinations of pediatric patients, and frequently provided expert witness testimony in criminal court cases.
Ms. Carroll has made numerous presentations throughout the United States, Kenya, Jordan, and Columbia on the topics of sexual assault, forensic examiner programs, mock trial training, and her personal experience as a survivor of marital rape.
Ms. Carroll worked on the set of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, as a technical advisor in 2004 and 2011.
Karen appears as a mentor in the virtual practicum developed by Dartmouth College and the USDOJ, entitled “Sexual Assault: Clinical and Forensic Management.
