Jeffrey Nelson, MD
Both from the West Coast initially, my wife and I moved to Memphis for residency training from medical school in Chicago. Since then we have become permanent Memphians. I completed a residency in family medicine and a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine, both through UTHSC. Since finishing training, I became faculty with UT in 2018 and have been working to develop adult palliative care in Memphis since. This has included starting and growing palliative care services in 5 hospitals in the city, teaching the UTHSC COM 4th year 'Geriatrics and Palliative Care' rotation, and getting to serve as a hospice medical director.
In collaboration with multiple hospital systems and community philanthropic organizations, we are working on augmenting existing palliative care in Memphis and creating a community-wide network to provide these services for as many in need as possible.
