James Hutcheson, MSN, APN, CPNP-AC
As a native West Tennesseean, "Hutch," as he is more commonly known, entered the nursing profession as a second career. A BS in Biology from the University of Memphis provided a strong science foundation, helping propel him into his nursing education. Completing his BS in Nursing at UTHSC College of Nursing, he knew his career would be devoted to the care of acutely-ill children and their families. He spent 2 years at the bedside in the Pediatric ICU at Le Bonheur Children's Hosptial prior to obtaining his MSN from Vanderbilt University in the Acute-care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program.
He worked in the critical care service at Le Bonheur for 2 years as an APN before an 8 year stent in primary care at Raleigh Group, PC, a large private practice serving mostly TN medicaid patients in an underserved part of Memphis. He spent his last 3 years at Raleigh Group as their practice administrator leading the efforts in obtaining Patient Centered Medical Home certification.
In 2020, he returned to Le Bonheur to serve on the Trauma Service as an APN caring for children with traumatic and burn injuries. His responsibilities have included multidisciplinary, evidence-based care for this vulnerable patient population in the regions only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center designated by the American College of Surgeons. He serves as an instructor in the College of Nursing at UTHSC helping prepare the next generation of nurse leaders.
Mr. Hutcheson is continuing his educational endeavors in working towards his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His ultimate goal is to enter into full time academia while still maintaining close contact with the Trauma Service at Le Bonheur.
