Identify and discuss common conditions of head trauma, DKA, cardiac defects, pediatric shock, recognition & management of pediatric respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation, basic trauma care, solid organ injury & bowel obstruction, critical care pharmacology, and bronchiolitis in the pediatric population.
Demontstrate hands-on competency with the use of chest drain systems, ventilators, the pediatric crash cart, tracheostomies, arterial and venous pressure monitoring systems, intracranial monitoring via fiber optic and intraventricular catheters, IV medication infusion pumps and administration of critical care medications.
Identfiy clinical manifestations and management of types of pediatric shock and their effective treatment, discussion of the management of a pediatric patient who has suffered head trauma, explaining the process for treating a pediatric DKA patient and identifying complications related to their condition, observation of the effects of mechanical ventilation on animal lung tissue and discussion regarding the consequences of different modes of ventilation as it related to the specific patient population.
Demonstrating improved comfort and proficiency through performance of skills associated with pediatric resuscitation and emergency procedures throughout the use of a crash cart, infusion pumps, and various medical equipment during simulations.
