Yvonne `Carroll, RN, JD
Yvonne Carroll, RN, JD is the Director of Patient Services, Department of Hematology, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN. Yvonne has been at St. Jude since 1999; she graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from the University of Tennessee and a Law Degree from the University of Cincinnati. She is a researcher, lawyer, nurse, and patient advocate. Yvonne's focus is sickle cell disease (SCD) education and advocacy. Yvonne sits on the Governor of TN Genetics Advisory Board and the Steering Council of the Newborn Screening Translational Research Network, American College of Genetics and Genomics; additionally she has received numerous awards and accolades, culminating in her receipt of the St. Jude Spirit of the Dream Legacy Award in 2021 and the St. Jude Values award in 2023 for her work in SCD. For many years, Yvonne has been involved with the establishment of a Newborn Screening program at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kanu, Nigeria. It is estimated that more than 150,000 infants are born each year with SCD in Nigeria, however, there is no universal screening program in the country.
