angela snyder, DNP, PPCNP-BC, CHPPN

Angela Snyder, DNP, PPCNP-BC, CHPPN currently serves as a pediatric palliative care nurse practitioner at St. Jude Children's Research hospital where she has the honor of walking with children and their families through some of the most sacred, complex and emotionally charged moments of life. Her nursing journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1990 where she first felt the stirrings of a deeper purpose in pediatric care. She went on to earn a Master's of Nursing degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000 and later a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Before transitioning fully into palliative care, she worked as a nurse practitioner in bone marrow transplant. It was there that she encountered suffering on a scale that changed the trajectory of her career. She watched children fight with all their strength, only to lose their battle - and to often, to suffer through the end. She came to believe deeply that if a child is going to die, they should be given the opportunity to do so with dignity, free from pain, and surrounded by love and understanding.
She has worked for nearly two decades to ensure that children with life limiting illnesses receive not only expert medical care, but also dignity, comfort, and compassion. Throughout her years in pediatric palliative care, she has remained committed not only to patient care but also to advancing the field through education, advocacy, and scholarship. She has been instrumental in developing the clinical practice of palliative care at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and has traveled teaching of her experiences. She has also contributed to academic research and co-authored peer-reviewed publications.
Today she continues to uphold the mission of St. Jude to "advance cures and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment by providing palliative care throughout the disease trajectory of patients going through bone marrow transplant.
