Christie Manasco, PhD, MSN, RN
A resident of Jackson, TN, Dr. Christie Manasco joined the UTHSC College of Nursing faculty as an assistant professor in July 2020. Dr. Manasco received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 1993, a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Union University in 2003, and a PhD in Nursing Education and Administration from William Carey University in 2017. The focus of her dissertation research was prebriefing in undergraduate nursing education
Prior to joining UTHSC, she was Assistant Dean of Nursing/Clinical Professor at the University of Memphis Lambuth, Loewenberg College of Nursing, where she was instrumental in leading and developing the first public BSN program in Jackson, Tennessee. She also served as Director of Undergraduate Education for the Center of Excellence in Healthcare/Assistant Professor in the Union University School of Nursing where she helped establish the simulation program and integrate simulation into the undergraduate nursing program. Dr. Manasco further refined her health care simulation expertise through her role as Clinical Educator/Manager of Academic Nursing for CAE Healthcare (formerly METI). Dr. Manasco has taught and presented regionally and nationally on using human patient simulation to facilitate learning in nursing and healthcare education.
Dr. Manasco has more than 25 years of experience as a registered nurse. Her practice areas include medical-surgical, home health, oncology, palliative care, and hospice nursing. Dr. Manasco maintains registry status as an oncology/palliative care/hospice nurse for West Tennessee Healthcare where she helps teach the chemotherapy certification course.
Dr. Manasco is currently a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, American Nurses Association, and Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA), where she serves Director of Education for the state and as President of TNA District 6. In 2014 and 2022, she received The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty.
