Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Management for Primary Care Providers

This conference is designed to provide primary care providers such as internists, general practitioners, emergency room physicians, hospitalists, advanced care practice nurses, registered nurses, and social workers with the information they need to treat sickle cell disease pediatric and adult patients.  There is no charge for this conference and continuing medical and nursing hours will be provided.

Target Audience

The target audience for this conference is primary care providers, such as internists, general practitioners, emergency room physicians, hospitalists, advanced care practice nurses, registered nurses, and social workers.

Learning Objectives

To familiarize primary care providers (PCPs) with the pathophysiological processes, diagnostic evaluation, and medical management of sickle hemoglobinopathies and their complications.  

Current standards of care, clinical research advances, and new treatment options will also be addressed to assist PCPs in the management of SCD. Healthcare providers are in an era of increased routine screening, assessment, and management of chronic complications not previously seen in the care of persons with SCD, and more persons living with SCD are relying on PCPs in non-specialty practices for comprehensive disease management.

Attendees will gain awareness of current guidelines for management of sickle cell
pain as evidenced by knowledge assessment and by participation in case studies
portraying patients presenting with pain.
