Dr. Cheryl Brewer is the Associate Vice President of Nursing for the Duke Health Integrated Practice in Durham, NC. She also serves as Clinical Associate Adjunct Faculty at Duke University School of Nursing. In addition to providing oversight for the practice and professional development of nurses across more than 120 clinics, Dr. Brewer is a nurse scientist whose research includes strategies to improve quality of life and decrease stigma in individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD). She has co-authored relevant publications and she is a member of several professional organizations including the International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses & Professional Associates, the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, NC Nurses Association, National Black Nurses Association Sickle Cell Disease Committee, and Central Carolina Black Nurses Council.

She has received several awards including the Duke University School of Nursing Distinguished Alumna award, NC Central University Nursing Distinguished Alumna Award, UNC Chapel Hill Outstanding Service Nursing Award, Triangle Business Journal Healthcare Heroes, Duke Friends of Nursing Award for Excellence in Leadership, NC Great 100, and the Chi Eta Phi Nurse Legend Award.

Dr. Brewer received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from NC Central University, a Master of Science Degree in Nursing Administration & Leadership from Duke University and a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of NC at Chapel Hill.
