Surviving Trauma and Restoring Futures: Supporting Care for Young Patients who are Victims of Violence
This event is providing CE for nurses by UTHSC and is organized by the Mid-South Society of Pediatric nurses to address the needs of providers as plan and provide care for young victims of violence. This program will be used to support the providers, the patients, and families. to understand resources, give the best care, promote self-care, and advocate for these victims and all involved. The increase incidence in our urban area young victims of gunshot violence has led to the frequent exposure to these victims in our clinical setting. Nurses need to learn to address specific mental health and environmental needs of these youth. Providers at all levels including students have increased stress caring for children who suffered trauma especially gunshot wounds. This 4 hour in person event aims to give support for health care providers including nurses, advanced providers, social work, and community to support survivors of trauma will provide 2.5 hours of CE.

Learning Objectives
The learner will learn to care for young victims of gunshot violence and strategies. to engage in to promote the providers mental health while experiencing the emotional stress of repeatedly of caring for these clients and families of GSW violence or other stressful patient encounters.
Understand the impact of community gun violence in our area as the nation's leading killer of children.
Explore how caring for patients and families impacted by gun violence affects the nurses (and other staff members) caring for them
Understand associated terms including vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress, resiliency, and burnout
Explore ways to address vicarious trauma and related stresses to avoid attrition and preserve altruism and sense of community in pediatric nurses
